During the visit, the Orange extended a scholarship off to Dembele, who SU feels will be ready to contribute next season if he choses Syracuse.
As reported a few weeks ago by CuseNation.com, Jim Boeheim was waiting to see Dembele himself before extending the scholarship offer. Gerry McNamara had been lobbying for an offer to go out since the first time he watched Cheickna.
Dembele averaged nearly 16 points and 11 rebounds this season for Scotland Performance Institute, while also shooting nearly 80 percent from the free throw line.
"He's Baye Keita with an offensive game," the source said. "Syracuse views him as a future pro."
Syracuse currently has three scholarships available for next season after Chinonso Obokoh and Kaleb Joseph announced they would transfer from the program.
