SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The most reputable NBA Draft insider, Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress, now has Malachi Richardson going in the first round.
After Richardson's decision to depart for the NBA Draft after an impressive combine performance, many believed the 6-foot-6 guard/forward received a promise from an organization that he would be selected in the first round.
If a player is selected in the first round, he will sign a contract that guarantees three years of money before ultimately signing his second contract. Second-round draft picks are not guaranteed a 3-year-deal.
Richardson will work out with the Atlanta Hawks today, according to agent Stephen Pina. CuseNation.com reported last week that he will also work out for the Chicago Bulls.
The likely landing spot right now for Malachi would be the Boston Celtics, who Givony projects will take him 31st overall. The Celtics have four 1st-round picks in the upcoming draft, which gives them the opportunity to take the risk on a guy with Richardson's potential.
Michael Gbinije is projected to go 53rd overall to the Denver Nuggets, according to Givony. He has worked out for the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks so far.
The NBA Draft will take place on June 23rd in Brooklyn.
