Gabe Sherrod is no longer coming to Syracuse after the Orange move in another direction. Details inside.
Syracuse and defensive end graduate transfer Gabe Sherrod have parted ways, sources tell Scout. Sherrod originally picked Syracuse back in February, but the Orange are moving in another direction.
Syracuse has a need at defensive end with the lack of experience returning, and Sherrod wanted to play major conference football. That was why it seemed like the perfect marriage. Several months later, and the fit is not what it appeared to be initially.
The good news for Syracuse is that they have another graduate transfer that committed to Syracuse on Saturday. That would be De'Jon Wilson out of Colorado. He will join a position group that desperately needs talented experience.
During the spring, Jake Pickard and Kenneth Ruff were the starters. Trey Dunkelberger switched to defensive end from tight end and was solid during spring ball.
The Orange also have multiple incoming freshman at the position to fill up the roster. They include Jaquwan Nelson, Joshua Black and Kendall Coleman.
