SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Class of 2017 four-star center Nick Richards will visit Syracuse this week, according to a source. He later tweeted that he was Syracuse bound.
Richards, a 6-foot-11 shot-blocker from Elizabeth (N.J.), left for Syracuse earlier on Thursday.
He's currently ranked as the 32nd best player in the 2017 class, according to Scout, and is the ninth best center.
Despite being so highly rated, Richards has only played organized basketball for a few years. His size presents problems on the defensive end of the floor, but he's still quite raw offensively. His post play needs improvement, but he's a very good rim protector - something he would do for Jim Boeheim in the 2-3 zone.
Earlier this month, Richards listed Syracuse, Indiana, Kentucky, UConn and Arizona as his top schools. He said he doesn't have a timetable for his recruitment, but won't hesitate to commit when he's ready.
Richards remains a top priority in the 2017 class, especially with Taurean Thompson's uncertain future.
