SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse assistant coach Gerry McNamara reached out to class of 2018 wing Christian Hinckson earlier this week, he told CuseNation.com.
"Getting a call from coach McNamara was surreal," he said. "To be able to talk to an assistant at such a high level, it was more than just a great feeling," he reiterated.
Hinckson plays for the U16 NY RENS, and McNamara watched him over the weekend at Peach Jam in South Carolina. He's a 6-foot-6 small forward who does a little bit of everything. He's described as a kid who can get to the rim, rebounds well for his position and is a solid shooting, according to a NY RENS assistant coach.
Hinckson has an offer from Iona, and interest from Creighton, Syracuse and UNLV, among others.
Christian also told CuseNation.com that McNamara invited him to Syracuse's Elite Camp next month at the Carrier Dome. The 6-foot-6 prospect said he will attend. He's looking forward to being evaluated by the staff and seeing where his recruitment goes from there.
When asked if he's interested in Syracuse, Hinckson replied, "Of course. Syracuse is one of the greatest programs in the world."
