SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Incoming freshman Matthew Moyer is currently in a walking boot after suffering a small sprain to his right foot, sources told CuseNation.com.
He expects to be back for the start of official practice, which begins in early October.
Moyer attended South Kent School (South Kent, Conn.), and maintained a 3.61 GPA as a senior. He was a member of the National Honor Society, is an accomplished classical violist, has volunteered on behalf of an area soup kitchen and as a youth basketball coach.
On the court, Matthew averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds this past season for South Kent. He shot nearly 60 percent from inside the 3-point arc this season, while leading the Cardinals to the New England Prep School Athletic Council Class AAA semifinals.
He averaged 21.5 points per game in the NEPSEC Class AAA tournament.
Moyer, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward, is part of the 2016 recruiting class that includes Tyus Battle and Taurean Thompson.
An official SU spokesman would not comment further on the injury, saying, "Matthew has a right foot injury."
