One of the top players in the entire 2017 class is set to visit the Syracuse Orange this weekend. Four-star, Scout 300 tight end Charles Reeves is the 176th best player overall in the class, 5th best tight end, the 2nd best tight end in the Midwest and top player at his position in Ohio.
Reeves will be checking out the campus for the first time and getting a better feel for the program. The 6-foot-6 prospect says he is excited about the visit.
"(I want to see) how the coaches coach," Reeves said. "And see how the players are."
Reeves will get a first hand view on Saturday. That day, his trip coincides with Fan Fest. That will give him a chance to observe the Syracuse fans and watch the coaches coach during a scrimmage.
The Syracuse coaches communicate with Reeves on a regular basis. He says their pitch to him is simple.
"That they want me," Reeves said. "I'm their number one guy."
Reeves added that the Syracuse coaches indicate there is an opportunity for him to start from day one as a true freshmen. The Orange tight end position will have significant turnover, leaving ample opportunity for a newcomer to earn the job for the 2017 season.
With a player of Reeves' caliber, he could easily do just that. Scout National Recruiting Analyst Allen Trieu calls Reeves a freak athlete who fits the mold of the new age tight end.
"Fine athlete with size and natural ball skills," Trieu said. "He can go up and get the football and has the athleticism to be a threat in the red zone and down the field. Good after the catch, especially for a bigger guy."
