CuseNation.com hands out its weekly game balls, this time they come after Syracuse knocked off Boston College for their first conference road win in over two years.
Steve Ishmael: Ishmael made big catch after big catch in easily his best performance of the season. It was his first time over 100 yards receiving this year and he recorded his first touchdown catch of 2016 as well. That catch was a thing of beauty. Eric Dungey tossed it up into the end zone where Ishmael had single coverage. He used his body to shield the defender, leaped, snatched the ball at its highest point, and tapped a foot down to make sure he was in bounds. That came at the end of the third quarter, and gave Syracuse a much needed cushion. He finished with eight catches for 108 yards and a touchdown.
Other Nominees: Amba Etta Tawo (10 catches, 144 yards, 1 TD), Eric Dungey (32-38, 434 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, 17 carries, 54 yards, 1 TD)
Parris Bennett: The junior linebacker led the Orange in tackles with 11 and had their only interception of the game. Bennett had several important tackles, and his interception may have been the turning point of the game. With Syracuse clinging to a four point lead, the Eagles were deep in Syracuse territory. Quarterback Pat Towles hit receiver Michael Walker inside the Orange five. But he bobbled the ball, it was deflected into the air, and Bennett snagged it to give Syracuse possession. They would score on the subsequent drive on the Ishmael catch referenced above.
Other Nominees: Zaire Franklin (7 tackles, 1 pass breakup, 1 QB hurry), Josh Black (2 tackles, 1 sack, 1 TFL)
Sterling Hofrichter: Hofrichter avoided disaster in the first half when he picked up a bad snap that he could not catch and was able to get the punt off. It netted less than 30 yards, but it prevented a big play for Boston College. Even with that short punt, he still averaged 39 yards per kick. Hofrichter also had two punts over 50 yards and kicked one inside the Eagles' 20.
Other Nominee: Brisly Estime (2 punt returns, 25 yards)
