Freshmen Impact breaks down Syracuse basketball's freshmen and how they will impact the 2016-17 season.

Tyus Battle

Out of the three high-ranked recruits, guard Tyus Battle is expected to have the biggest impact for the Orange. Battle is an explosive guard who can also play small forward at times. He can also handle running the point if needed. He will become one of Syracuse's best scorers both in transition and in the half court.

The Orange may not have anyone who can attack the rim and create his own shot as well as Battle. Underrated about the freshman talent is his defensive ability. His length and quick feet will give opponents fits at the top of the zone.

Taurean Thompson

The 6-foot-10 Thompson will bring length and height off the Orange’s bench – something that will be key in Boeheim’s 2-3 zone. Thompson’s long arms have the ability to disrupt shots in the paint and outside shooting. On offense, Thompson will help spread the floor with his ability to hit the mid-range jumper.

Thompson also brings versatility as he can play power forward or center.

Matthew Moyer

Moyer, a 6-foot-8 freshmen from Ohio, may see fewer minutes out of all the freshmen, thanks to a loaded front court. The freshman brings athleticism and shooting when he does see playing time. He can play small or power forward. Moyer is a smart player who is still adding weight to his frame. He is at his best in transition.
