CuseNation.com hands out its weekly game balls, this time they come after Syracuse fell at Pittsburgh 76-61.
Zack Mahoney: Mahoney had a career day against the Panthers. He moved the ball extremely well, made plays with his arms and his legs, was efficient offensively, and made plays on both third and fourth down. Mahoney was accurate in the short, intermediate and downfield game. He finished 43-61 passing for 440 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for 49 yards and two more scores. That's seven total touchdowns for the junior quarterback.
Other Nominees: Amba Etta-Tawo (13 catches, 178 yards, 5 TDs), Erv Philips (11 catches, 107 yards), Moe Neal (8 rushes, 91 yards, TD)
Parris Bennett: When your defense gives up 76 points and over 600 yards, it's hard to find defensive bright spots. But Bennett was a solid tackler once again, led the team with eight tackles and led the team with 1.5 tackles for loss. As the season progressed, Bennett really shined within the defensive system.
Other Nominees: Chris Slayton (2 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 fumble recovery)
Sterling Hofrichter: There were 20 touchdowns in the Syracuse vs Pittsburgh game. Despite that, Hofrichter still got off five punts. He averaged 46.8 yards per kick and pinned one inside the 20. His leg has always been strong, but it became more and more consistent as the year went on.
Other Nominee: Sean Riley (10 kick returns, 176 yards)
