Syracuse has added experienced talent to their linebacking group in the form of Ellsworth Community College's Ryan Guthrie. Guthrie was offered by, committed to and signed with the Orange on Wednesday, the first day of the early JUCO signing period.
Guthrie led the junior college ranks in solo tackles (107) and was third in total tackles (139). He was also a junior college All-American honorable mention.
In addition, Guthrie added 25.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and an interception to his resume this past season. He is listed at 6-foot-2, 210-pounds on the Ellsworth Athletics website. He is originally from Georgia where he played high school ball at West Forsyth High.
Among his best games as a sophomore was a 16 tackle, four tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery performance against Coffeyville.
Guthrie had previously been committed to Tulane. He had a bunch of other non-power five offers, but officially visited the Orange this past weekend.
Syracuse loves what he brings to the table. He has a nose for the football, plays fast, can rush the quarterback or drop back into coverage.
Expect the ECC standout to compete for a starting position right away.
