SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- In last year's Elite 8, Syracuse trailed Virginia by 14 at the half and by as many as 16 in the second half before storming back to an improbably comeback victory. On Saturday, the Orange trailed by 12 at intermission, before an 11-0 run got them back in it.
Shortly thereafter, an 8-0 put Syracuse up for good. A John Gillon layup and misses Isiah Wilkins free-throw sealed the victory down the stretch.
Syracuse held off Virginia down the stretch for a 66-62 win to improve to 15-9 (7-4) on the season, putting the Orange firmly back into the NCAA Tournament picture. The win was also the 1000th win of Jim Boeheim's career.
