One of the top players in the entire 2018 class is five-star Louis King. King is a gifted 6-foot-8 wing prospect who can do it all on the floor. He has length, quickness, elite athleticism and is a gifted scorer.
One of the schools that has been recruiting him for some time is Syracuse, who identified his talent early. They have been in touch regularly for a while.
"They are going very hard," King said of the Orange. "They call quite often. I have spoke to coach Autry a lot and he also speaks to my parents along with coach Hopkins. They are telling me that my style of play fits well with their program, and that I have the ability to come in and play right away."
Coach Autry has developed a strong relationship with King, which will only help Syracuse as the recruiting cycle progresses.
"I think I have a great relationship with him," King said. "I think he is a great coach from the experience that I have had with him. As a man, I think that he sets a good example for players. He has told me often that he is not just interested in the player, he wants to make sure I grow into a fine man."
But Autry is not the only assistant with whom King has developed a strong relationship. Assistant and future head coach Mike Hopkins has made an impression on the Hudson Catholic standout.
"I have a great relationship with him also," King said. "When I attended the camp they had, I could tell that he really liked me as a person and a player, which I feel is important. As a man, I think he carries himself very well. I feel he would groom me as a fine man also."
King says he currently does not have any set plans to visit Syracuse in the immediate future. He is busy with his junior year, and will have to wait until after this season is over. King did say, however, that visiting Syracuse will happen sometime after that.
The 6-foot-8 wing currently holds several offers in addition to Syracuse, including UConn, Indiana, Louisville and Maryland among others. Even with a lot of options, the Orange remain one of his top options.
"They are a priority for me right now," King said. "I have a very high interest in them. The coaching staff is great. I do feel I could have a successful career at Syracuse."
King says he is looking to decide during the fall of his senior year.
