New Jersey defensive end Lancine Turay talks Syracuse visit

One of the top defensive linemen in New Jersey in the 2018 class discusses his recent trip to Central New York.

Irvington (N.J.) High defensive end Lance Turay has attracted a lot of regional attention in his recruitment. At 6-foot-5, 240-pounds with explosiveness, it is easy to see why. One of the schools who has offered and is in hot pursuit is Syracuse. The Orange have remained in constant communication since extending an offer.

Over the weekend, Turay checked out the Syracuse campus for the first time.

"It was a new experience," Turay said. "Very fun to watch and experience. We saw the facilities, watched the practice and went to the Dome."

Turay spent part of his time on campus speaking with the Syracuse coaches. They discussed a variety of topics, some about football and some not. As he continued to develop his relationship with the coaches on the visit, the Orange staff made sure to communicate what his impact would be should he choose SU.

"I liked getting to know the staff and watching them practice," Turay said. "Because it's some of the only football I'll be seeing until the season starts. (They said) that at the rate of my improvement, I could make a difference on the line."

While watching practice, a couple of things stood out to the Irvington High standout. He said he noticed the energy and competitiveness of the players. Turay added that it seemed like a brotherhood.

Another part of the visit that stood out was seeing the Carrier Dome. Turay said it is "the only thing like it."

Turay remains very interested in Syracuse, but is keeping everything close to the vest as far as favorites right now. Syracuse remains a realistic option, however. He said it is possible he will return to the campus in the near future for another unofficial visit.
