Commitment Impact: Trill Williams

Breaking down the impact of Trill Williams commitment to Syracuse.

Committed Over: Trill Williams committed to Syracuse over Boston Collage, Buffalo, UMass, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Temple.

Rated: Williams is rated as a three-star prospect by

Evaluation:  Williams has burst, and a very good change of direction. He has stop-start ability, and a fluidity to the way he moves. He can play running back or line up in the slot on offense, and he shows his ability to make people miss in space. He has natural athleticism. His ceiling looks to be highest as a cornerback, but he could play on offense as well. His length will help in pass coverage and the ability to close on a ball in the air. He can jam at the line of scrimmage, but he will need to continue to increase his strength. His stop-start ability shows his acceleration, and getting out of breaks while staying on the hip of the receiver is key. Williams offers position flexibility, which is huge in the recruiting game. He can play cornerback, possibly safety, running back or receiver.

Recruiting Impact: Syracuse is off to a strong start in 2018. Not only because they landed two talented players before April, but both were in-state prospects. Williams is a downstate athlete with tremendous upside. He is also friends with four-star in-state offensive lineman Qadir White, who recently visited the Orange. Getting Williams is a big win for Syracuse because he represents keeping a talented player home, beating regional recruiting rivals and could help with other downstate targets.

Quotable: "The campus is really beautiful," Williams said. "The Dome is just breathtaking. When we walked in there, I could see myself playing in the Dome."

Final Thought: Williams is a nice get for Syracuse. Two early commitments both in-state. That matches Syracuse's signees in 2017 already. While getting Williams over regional recruiting rivals is a big win, there is still work to be done. Now Syracuse must hang on to Williams as other schools are not likely to back off. The good news is this staff has a strong track record of hanging on to commitments even with others attempt to poach.
