The late signing period for basketball recruiting starts on April 12th, which is less than two weeks away. It runs through May 17th. Here is the latest with each Syracuse target in the 2017 class.
Tremont Waters is still waiting for his release from Georgetown. There was a report that Syracuse was expected to pursue. However, all indications are that the Orange will not. Especially with Howard Washington in the mix. Kansas seems to be a strong favorite, assuming the release does happen.
Eric Ayala continues to be pursued by Syracuse. He would provide needed guard depth, and can play the one or the two. Should he pick the Orange, Ayala would likely have a significant role as a true freshman. The Orange appear to be in a good spot here. No reclassification decision has been made publicly. Syracuse will be one of the favorites regardless of class.
Syracuse visited Jordan Tucker recently. Head coach Jim Boeheim and assistant Gerry McNamara traveled down to Georgia to meet with the sharpshooting wing. He is in the process of setting up an official to SU. That visit will tell the tale on where they stand, but they have a shot at a minimum.
Chris Duarte is an interesting case. He visited Syracuse twice and there seemed to be strong mutual interest. However, things have gone relatively quiet on this front since. It seems to be a 50/50 proposition at this point, and those numbers may be dwindling.
The Slovakian star has received interest from multiple high-major programs, including Syracuse. There have not been a lot of developments here, and it may be tough to add him if Syracuse is able to get Tucker and Ayala. This is a situation worth monitoring, but not one Orange fans should expect to fall their way as of now.
