One of the best center prospects in the 2018 class is four-star offensive lineman Tyrone Sampson out of East English Village Prep in Detroit (Mich.). Sampson visited Syracuse on Tuesday and committed to the Orange on the trip, a source tells Scout.
The 6-foot-3, 304-pound lineman picked SU over Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota and Virginia among others. He was also receiving interest from Michigan and Michigan State.
"These are my guys," Sampson said. "I love them."
He added that head coach Dino Babers was shocked and excited when he gave his verbal commitment.
Syracuse was the first power five offer for Sampson back in March of 2016. A little over a year later after developing strong relationships with the Orange staff, Sampson gave Syracuse arguably their biggest commitment of the Dino Babers era.
Sampson recently won offensive line MVP of The Opening Cleveland regional, and earned an invite to The Opening finals.
The Motor City standout is ranked the second best center in the 2018 class and 265th best player overall. He is the third player to commit to Syracuse this cycle, joining three-star athlete Trill Williams and three-star tight end Gabe Horan.
