One of the more intriguing prospects in the 2017 class is Slovakian star Marek Dolezaj. Several major conference programs are in pursuit of the talented 6-foot-9 forward, including Syracuse. The Orange are hosting Dolezaj for an official visit that starts on Sunday, a source tells Scout. He arrived in Syracuse Sunday evening.
As Syracuse looks to round out its roster for the 2017-18 season, there is plenty of playing time available. Especially for players as talented as Dolezaj with an extremely desirable skill set.
European players have a reputation of being fundamentally sound and strong shooters. Dolezaj is both of those without question. Where he separates himself is his ability to put the ball on the floor, attack the basket and being willing to mix it up inside. He can finish, create for others and make plays in the lane.
Syracuse has done quite well with those types of versatile forwards in the past, sending many to the professional ranks. With that skill set and his length, he could be a perfect fit for the Orange system.
The recruitment of Dolezaj should also not be viewed as an indication that Syracuse is moving on from Jordan Tucker. Not at all. The two are different players who would be taking on different roles for Syracuse next season. Both would be expected to be major contributors right away with plenty of minutes available.
Make no mistake, Dolezaj is a big time talent and Syracuse getting him on campus for an official shows their interest is strong.
