Former ECU guard Elijah Hughes is transferring to Syracuse basketball

East Carolina transfer Elijah Hughes has committed to continue his college basketball career at Syracuse.

East Carolina transfer Elijah Hughes has committed to Syracuse as a transfer, he and a source tell Scout. Hughes previously was supposed to visit Iona this weekend before decided, but that trip is no longer necessary.

"I feel like it's a great fit," Hughes said. "It's a place where I can go and make a big impact."

Hughes says he is excited to play with former high school teammate Matthew Moyer again, but knows several other players on the team as well. He called it a family and thinks they will have something special during his time with the program.

Hughes averaged 7.8 points per game as a true freshman at East Carolina. He will have to sit the 2017-18 season, but will have three years of eligibility remaining starting with the 2018-19 campaign.

Paramount in Hughes' decision was his relationship with associate head coach Adrian Autry and head coach Jim Boeheim.

"Coach Autry and I have a real strong relationship," Hughes said. "I look at him as a bigger brother. Coach Boeheim and I's relationship is very good as well."

Hughes visited the Orange on Wednesday, May 10th. He had previously checked out Seton Hall before deciding after his trip to Syracuse.

"The visit went real good," Hughes said. "I spent a lot of time with the coaches. We went and saw campus, went to eat. I was very impressed with both campus and the facilities. Everything really stood out to me."
