Marek Dolezaj (Martin Sopinec)

Commitment Impact: Marek Dolezaj

Breaking down the impact of Marek Dolezaj signing with Syracuse.

Committed Over: Marek Dolezaj picked Syracuse over an offer from Vanderbilt and interest from Georgia Tech and Indiana.

Evaluation: Dolezaj is a versatile forward at 6-foot-9. He can play anywhere in the frontcourt at the college level. Dolezaj is extremely skilled and a very fluid athlete. He can put the ball on the floor, attacks the rim with success, can make plays in the lane for himself or others and has a good jumper that continues to improve.

With his length and skill set, Dolezaj has tremendous potential. He needs to get stronger and add some weight to his frame as well as work on consistency with his outside shot.

Recruiting Impact: Dolezaj ends Syracuse's frontcourt recruiting efforts in the 2017 class. Syracuse remains in the market for a guard to bolster the backcourt depth, from the they are loaded up front. Beyond that, assuming Dolezaj is successful at Syracuse, it could open up the doors for more European prospects in the future.

How He Fits: This is a perfect fit for Syracuse. With the loss of Tyler Lydon to the NBA, Dolezaj has the ability to provide similar versatility. He has work to do in order to be as effective as Lydon was right away, but the potential is there. A skilled player with length who is a fluid athlete is always nice to have within your program, and is a perfect fit for Syracuse on both ends of the floor.

Final Thought: Credit Syracuse for being willing to recruit in a non-traditional way for them in order to land someone who can help the program. While Syracuse was involved with a European prospect last cycle in Omer Yurtseven, it never felt as though the interest was as serious was it was for Dolezaj. The Orange worked hard at this recruitment and found someone who could impact their program for years to come.
