Football recruits focus on secondary

While the SU secondary has struggled to start the year, Syracuse is in the midst of recruiting three players to help bolster that position. Here's a look at the inside scoop.

Jamaal Jackson (Safety)
Height: 6-3
Weight: 205
40: 4.45
From: Chesapeake, VA (Deep Creek HS)
The skinny: Jackson is one of the top thirty players in the state of Virginia. He has been offered scholarships by both Syracuse and Michigan State. Other schools of interest include Maryland, Virginia and Virginia Tech.




Donte Herrod (Safety)
Height: 5-11
Weight: 180
40: 4.72
From: Washington, DC (Woodson HS)
The skinny: As a junior, Herrod claims to have finished the season with nearly 150 tackles. Syracuse and Michigan have both offered. Maryland, Ohio State, Virginia and Virginia Tech are on his list of favorites.




Dustin Tatum (CB)
Height: 5-10
Weight: 160
40: 4.52
From: Lafayette, LA (St. Thomas More)
The skinny: Tatum has emerged as a quality Division-IA cornerback prospect for 2004. He plays with excellent technique which allows him to match up well with the bigger and faster receivers. Syracuse, Cincinnati, Mississippi State and Ohio have offered. Tatum is also interested in Arkansas, Minnesota and Tulane.
