Syracuse at Virginia Tech Preview

Overview: Syracuse (3-1, 0-0 Big East) heads to Virginia to take on the No. 4 Hokies (5-0, 1-0), Saturday. The matchup, the final between these two teams before Virginia Tech jumps to the ACC, will be a battle of running backs, as Tech's Kevin Jones and SU's Walter Reyes have had great starts to the season.

Offensive scouting report: Virginia Tech brings a solid balance between the running and passing attack, as QB Bryan Randall has spread the ball to several different receivers this year including Ernest Wilford, and Chris Shreve. Doing so has allowed back Kevin Jones to become one of the nation's top tailbacks.

Defensive scouting report: Linebackers Mikal Baaque and Vegas Robinson will do everything they can to stop Walter Reyes and the SU running game. Syracuse has not thrown the ball a tremendous amount in the past few games, but if Johnnie Morant (ankle) is healthy, don't be surprised if Syracuse tries to throw on Tech's secondary.

Notes and Quotes: Linebacker Jameel Dumas, who hasn't played because of knee problems, will make his first appearance since the opening game. … TE Joe Donnelly also makes his return after suffering a shoulder injury in preseason. … "They're No. 4. They have what we want," Syracause quarterback RJ Anderson on Virginia Tech.
