Syracuse at Pittsburgh Preview

Syracuse (4-2, 1-1 Big East) heads down to Pittsburgh (4-2, 1-0) Saturday, in what figures to be another huge challenge for the Orangemen defense.

Just one week after shutting down the nation's leading rusher, Boston College's Derrick Knight (who rushed for just 51 yards last week), Syracuse will now have the nation's top receiver, Pittsburgh sophomore Larry Fitzgerald to deal with.

Offensive Scouting Report: The 6-foot-3 Fitzgerald, a Heisman candidate, leads the nation in three categories -- receiving yards per game (144.8), points per game (13), and touchdown receptions (13). Still, the Pitt offensive line has been slowed by injuries and Jawan Walker will be the Panthers' starting tailback after Brandon Miree suffered a stress fracture in his right heel. No timetable has been set for his return.

Defensive Scouting Report: Defensive end Claude Harriott, hampered by an ankle injury, has disappointed this season, collecting just two sacks after notching 9.5 sacks last year. The rest of the Panthers' defense has had problems of its own, allowing Notre Dame's Julius Jones to rush for 262 yards two weeks ago and giving up 384 yards to Rutgers' QB Ryan Hart.

Notes & Quotes: Damien Rhodes (ankle) will not play this week. … Jameel Dumas is listed as "doubtful." … Diamon Ferri, a Boston native, notched his first-career interception against the Eagles last week. … "He just makes things happen, even when the quarterback makes a bad throw. He just goes up and gets it and makes a tremendous catch," safety Anthony Smith on Fitzgerald.
