Q & A with Tom Ferron

CuseJuice.com had the opportunity to interview recent Syracuse football commitment, Tom Ferron, of Clyde-Savannah High School, Clyde, NY.

Ferron is a consensus top 15 player in New York State this year. He is 6-foot-4; 235-pound tight end that had 30 catches for 624 yards and 8 touchdown receptions this season.

Q., Why did you decide to commit to Syracuse University to play football?

It's close to home and my family can come to see me play. There is also an opportunity for me to play early.

Q. Why do you think you can play early?

The coaches told me I have an advantage to play early because I only live 45 minutes away and I can workout with the team all summer. I plan on doing that.

Q. When did Syracuse first start recruiting you?

They started to become interested in me in the beginning of my junior year.

Q. What other schools were you looking at?

I had an offer from Wisconsin and interest from Penn State, Wake Forest, and Rutgers.

Q. Did the ACC-Big East dilemma over the past couple months factor in your decision at all?

At first, I was a little worried about going to the Big East after Miami and Virginia Tech left, but I talked to the coaches and they told that with those teams gone it will only make the road easier for Syracuse to get a BCS bid. They told me that Syracuse would be at the top of the Big East now.

Q. When do you plan on visiting Syracuse officially?

I am going on an official visit to Syracuse for the Notre Dame game.
