"Jamar will sign with Syracuse on signing day," Dow said. "He doesn't plan to officially visit, he did that two years ago."

Dow also said he expects Atkinson to compete immediately for the starting middle linebacker spot vacated by Rich Scanlon. Atkinson originally committed to Syracuse in 2001 when he was a senior at Garfield High School in Woodbridge, VA.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound sophomore middle linebacker was named Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American and All-Northeast Conference Defensive player of the year this season. He led SUNY Morrisville in tackles this season (106 tackles) and was second on the team in tackles last season. Atkinson will have three years to play when he enrolls at Syracuse.
