‘Cuse The Leader For One of NYS Top Juniors

New Rochelle (New Rochelle, NY) Assistant football coach Raymond Rhett believes his star player Ray Rice will get his first offer very soon.

"I think Syracuse is real close to offering him," Rhett said. "He went up to Syracuse for their Junior Day and really liked it. He thought Syracuse was going to offer him when he was up there, but they said they will probably still offer him early.

Maryland is another school that is showing strong interest in Rice. "Ray has been to Maryland for their Junior Day. They're also recruiting Ray very hard."

So which of the two schools (Syracuse and Maryland) that are showing the most interest is Rice most interested in? "I would say Syracuse, because they like him as a running back and his teammate Courtney Greene is going there. If Syracuse offers him there is a good chance he would go there."

Rhett also said that Rice would like to make an early decision on where he will play college football. Rice plans on camping at Syracuse this summer.

Rice is a 5-foot-9, 190-pound RB/DB that made First Team All-State and First team All-Westchester County this past season. He was also named the 2003 New York State Class AA Player of the Year and Westchester-Putnam County Player of the Year. Rice ran for 1,332 yards and 11 touchdowns this past season. Rice rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns in New Rochelle's 32-6 victory over Webster Schroeder in the New York State Class AA football championship. Rice is widely considered as being one of the top ten football players in New York State in 2005.
