Top Junior RB Gets First Offer From ‘Cuse

It was just a matter of time before New Rochelle High School (New Rochelle, NY) football star Ray Rice got a offer from Syracuse University.

"Ray got his first offer from Syracuse a couple of days ago," head football coach Lou DiRienzo said. "He was really excited and he has been interested in Syracuse for a while. Ray likes the academic situation that Syracuse offers and the fact that he could play with his teammate Courtney Greene (2004 commit). I would say they are the leader for them, he hasn't mentioned any other school to me that he might be interested in."

"When asked if there was a possibility that Rice would commit to Syracuse when he camps there this summer, DiRienzo said he wasn't sure "he very possibly could." Rice will likely attend the Nike Penn State combine and Syracuse Football camp this summer.

Rice is a 5-foot-9, 190-pound RB/DB that made First Team All-State and First team All-Westchester County this past season. He was also named the 2003 New York State Class AA Player of the Year and Westchester-Putnam County Player of the Year. Rice ran for 1,332 yards and 11 touchdowns this past season. He rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns in New Rochelle's 32-6 victory over Webster Schroeder in the New York State Class AA football championship. Rice is widely considered as being one of the top ten football players in New York State in 2005.
