Orange Defeat Brown 13-6

Sophomore attackman Brian Crockett scored six goals and posted a career-high seven points as No. 3 Syracuse defeated No. 11 Brown 13-6 at Stevenson Field.<br><br>

Syracuse improved to 6-1 on the season and will host Loyola at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, April 10.

The six goals scored by Crockett was the second time this season that the sophomore posted a six goal game. He also scored six goals in SU's victory at Virginia on March 6.

Brown jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter thanks to two goals apiece from Christopher Mucciolo and Chazz Woodson. Crockett got on the SU scoreboard at the 9:30 mark. Senior Michael Powell then assisted Crockett with 3:49 left in the first quarter to cut the Brown lead to 4-2. Sean Lindsay scored an extra-man goal off a feed from Brian Nee with 48 seconds remaining in the opening period to pull SU to within 4-3.

Syracuse went on a 4-1 run in the second quarter. Powell, Lindsay, Crockett and Kevin Dougherty all registered unassisted goals to give the Orange a 7-4 lead. Mucciolo scored off a pass from Woodson on a man-up opportunity with 25 seconds remaining in the first half as SU took a 7-5 lead at the half.

Two goals by Crockett and Powell gave Syracuse a 9-5 lead at the 9:39 mark of the third quarter. Dougherty assisted Crockett with a goal to give SU a 10-5 lead with 7:44 remaining in the third quarter.

Nee and Crockett each scored two goals to start the fourth quarter. Freshman Steven Brooks tallied his second goal of the season with 7:31 remaining in the contest with a hard outside shot to put SU up 13-5.

Syracuse changed goalies after Brooks' goal and Nick Donatelli played the final 7:30. Rory Hyland recorded Brown's sixth goal off an assist from Richard Tuohey with 3:52 remaining in the game.
