Smith, who played last season at Schenectady High School in Schenectady, New York, and had previously attended Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, listed Georgetown, Iowa State, Purdue, and Syracuse among the schools who have expressed an interest in him. He does not yet have any offers.

Smith is long, athletic, and active around the hoop, good for the occasional tip-dunk. He has good quickness and developing ball skills. Smith will need to add strength to his rangy frame for the next level.
