Scarlet Knights Stun Orange

Syracuse's five-game winning streak came to a screeching halt on Saturday in Piscataway, NJ as No. 15-ranked Rutgers shocked the No. 4 Orangemen 14-10 at Yurcak Field. It was the second straight year that the Scarlet Knights defeated the Orangemen.<br><br>

Syracuse is now 8-2 on the season. Rutgers improved to 7-3. The Orangemen host Albany this Saturday at 4:30 at the Carrier Dome.

Rutgers sophomore goalie Greg Havalchak was on fire for the Scarlet Knights. He recorded 21 saves. While Havalchak did his part on defense for Rutgers, Delby Powless provided the scoring punch with his four goals on the afternoon.

Syracuse jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but Rutgers came back in the first quarter to take a 5-3 lead. By the end of the second period, the Scarlet Knights built a 10-5 advantage. Powless netted three of his goals during the run.

Rutgers took a seven-goal lead (its largest lead of the day) at 7:52 of the third quarter when Brett Mooney scored on a pass from Tim White, which gave Rutgers a 12-5 advantage.

Syracuse got three straight goals from Michael Powell, Brian Crockett and Kevin Dougherty to cut the lead to 12-8 with 1:30 remaining.

Havalchak came up big in the fourth period, stopping several point-blank shots. Powell and Sean Lindsay were the only players who were able to score.

Powell had four goals for the Orange, while Crockett and Lindsay each had two.
