The Orangemen which finished the regular season with an 11-2 record, received a No. 4 seed in the 16-team tournament. The winner of Sunday's game will travel to Cornell for the quarterfinals on May 22 and face the winner of No. 5 Georgetown-Towson.
Johns Hopkins (11-1) is the No. 1 seed, followed by No. 2 Navy (12-2) and No. 3 Maryland (12-2).
Albany and Syracuse met for the first time this season on April 24 at the Carrier Dome. The Orangemen posted an 18-8 victory.
This will be SU's 25th appearance in the NCAA Championship overall and its 22nd consecutive appearance. The last time the Orangemen earned a No. 4 seed was in 1998. Syracuse has played in an unprecedented 21-straight NCAA semifinal games, appeared in 13 championship games and won eight titles. The Orangemen have two of the last four NCAA crowns (2000 and 2002). Their other titles came in 1983, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1993 and 1995.
