Goodridge Lists Orange

The big name schools are starting to line up and make sure that Vernon Goodridge, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound power forward/center who will play for Lutheran Christian in Philadelphia this season, realize they love his game.

Goodridge, who was supposed to take an unofficial visit to St. John's last week, had to cancel at the last minute due to a prior commitment to play basketball. Instead, Goodridge's mom took the visit. "She had a great time," said Vernon. "She had a chance to meet the coaches and see the school. She said she enjoyed the visit."

Goodridge said he hopes to reschedule his visit to St. John's for next week. Vernon is hoping to play some more basketball in two weeks at the Rumble in the Bronx. "If my school team is in the tournament I will play with them," he said. "If they aren't I will look for another team to play with."

Goodridge can affect a game right now defensively. He is an excellent shotblocker. His offensive game is improving but needs to be more polished.

But because his defensive game is so effective, almost every Big East school has either inquired or offered. The list is long for Big East schools trying to get Goodridge in for a visit -- Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Connecticut, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh are interested. "Syracuse has a winning tradition," Goodridge said. "They like to run the ball up the floor. I don't mind a fast game. I want to go to a school too where I can play right away."

Nationally, schools like North Carolina, Kentucky, Louisville, Florida State, Clemson, and Iowa State were mentioned by Goodridge. "I am still open," Goodridge said. "I am just trying to take some visits during the summer before I decide."
