Mayben Handles The Hype

The hype surrounding the talents of Tiki Mayben started very early in his career -- perhaps a little bit too early for any youngster to handle. With some scouting services ranking kids as they come out of their diapers, it has placed an unfair burden on many of these kids.<br<br>

But it appears that Mayben, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound point guard from Troy High School in Troy, New York, has responded successfully over the past year. "I would say the aspect of Tiki's game that has improved the most is his composure," said Albany City Rocks head coach Jim Hart. "He is more calm, more composed in tough situations. Hart said at the Boo Williams tournament Mayben led his team in assists. "He has been doing a great job for us," Hart said. "He's going to have a great summer. He is bigger and stronger too. He has grown some inches over the past year." Mayben has always been a point guard who can make a dazzling pass. But his game is rounding out to be an even more efficient offensive player. "He can be more of a scorer for us too," Hart said. "Now that he has grown he can post up smaller guards and take it to the basket more. Tiki has always had great court vision." Hart then told a story of Mayben meeting fellow teammate Paul Harris for the first time. Harris is an up and coming forward for the City Rocks. "Tiki sits down on the bench next to me and Paul," Hart said. "Then he leaned over and said, 'Son, everywhere you go I will see you and find you.'" Hart then laughed. "That was a great introduction by Tiki," he said. "I had never seen anyone make an intro like that. It was great and it showed how Tiki has come along." This is terrific news for Syracuse University fans. Mayben has already given a verbal commitment to the Orange. "He's going to be a great player for Syracuse," Hart said. "He has another year to continue his improvements. He's going to be an impact player for Syracuse."
