Konecny withdraws from school

Syracuse freshman forward Mark Konecny has withdrawn from the university, Syracuse sports information department officials confirmed Tuesday night.

The 6-foot-10 forward from Waterbury, Conn., did not dress Tuesday for Syracuse's game against Colgate. Konecny did not play in the Preseason NIT or against Binghamton because of what SU head coach Jim Boeheim said were back spasms.

Boeheim said the university would release information regarding Konecny on Wednesday, but basketball SID Pete Moore confirmed Tuesday night that Konecny has withdrawn from Syracuse University.

Reasons, at this time, are unknown. But Konecny was supposed to compete for minutes at the four this season, where Syracuse remains in need of time. The withdraw comes after freshman point guard Billy Edelin was suspended from school stemming from accusations of sexual assault. Edelin has said he hopes to return to Syracuse next season.
