"One of the top reasons is my dad is from New York," Lewis said. "He knows New York State very well."
Lewis was also considering Kent State, Rutgers and Temple.
Lewis joins Centreville HS teammate Derek Bailey as Syracuse commits. They are close friends and have often talked about heading to the same college, Lewis said.
"I think that when we go to Syracuse, me and Derek have a good chance to making the program better," he said.
Lewis finished his junior season with 83 tackles, seven sacks, and three fumble recoveries. He also played some linebacker, showing off excellent speed and quickness in the open field.
The 6'3", 250-pound defensive end also attributed a large part of his decision to Syracuse assistant coach Chris White.
"Coach White is a cool person," Lewis said. "He's down to earth and he's honest. He doesn't hype your head up and he let's you know how it is. If you do a good job, and you work hard, you're going to play."
