Syracuse makes contact with Marcus Johnson

Syracuse University wasted no time in the contact period to show its love for Los Angeles swingman Marcus Johnson.

The 6-foot-6 athletic jumping jack from Westchester High School in Los Angeles, California had a contact visit with the Orange today, the first day of the contact period. Most programs either take contact visits with the recruit or take in home or in school visits. The Orange have obviously made Johnson a top priority for their 2005 recruiting class.

However, the same can be said for Connecticut and Louisville, the schools that are competing hard with Syracuse to land Johnson's signature on a letter of intent in November. Connecticut and Louisville have also made it known that Johnson is a high priority for its programs too. Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun is scheduled to take an in home visit with Johnson later this evening, according to sources close to Marcus.

In addition, Johnson, who competed this past summer at the Reebok ABCD camp in early July at FDU, will take an official visit to Louisville this upcoming weekend.

Connecticut has a visit scheduled with Johnson next weekend (September 18th) after Marcus takes his visit to Louisville. Johnson is friends with Amir Johnson and Andre McGee, two Louisville prospects. So Rick Pitino's program also has an excellent shot at Johnson.

In addition, Syracuse has scheduled a visit with Johnson for the weekend of October 8th. The Orange play Florida State that weekend before a full house. Round one begins this weekend in Louisville, Kentucky.
