Andray Blatche Update

Over the summer, Andray Blatche, the wiry 6-foot-11 220 pound PF from South Kent Prep in Connecticut, seemed to be heavily leaning toward taking his game to college. Syracuse and West Virginia were the two programs the Syracuse, New York, native was seriously considering.

Catching up with Blatche this past weekend, however, he appears inclined to play his season out, and see how things shake out in terms of NBA interest.

"I haven't heard from any colleges in such a long time," said Blatche. "I guess they all think I'm going to the NBA.

"I'm just waiting to see how I do this year, to see how this season turns out (before deciding on college or the NBA draft)."

What intrigues NBA types about Blatche are his budding handle, ball skills, and quickness, captured in a lengthy 6-foot-11 frame. Playing with the Shooting Stars at the IS8 league in Queens on Friday night, Blatche showed flashes of what he could be, breaking down defenders off the dribble on the break, or knifing through traffic for points.

The effort and focus is not always there, and he is prone to bouts of drifting. However, it is plain to see that Andray has a considerable upside. He also possesses good quickness for a player his size. However, his perimeter skills are still somewhat rudimentary, and, despite the potential, he still has a ways to go.
