Ferri sends BC out with a loss

The Orange spoiled No. 17 Boston College's BCS party on Saturday by handing the Eagles a 43-17 defeat in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The win moved Syracuse into a first-place tie with Boston College, Pittsburgh and West Virginia in the Big East.

The Orange are bowl eligible for the first time in three seasons and are awaiting word on their postseason future. At the very least, Syracuse won a share of the league championship and a $1.575 million payout.

The victory wouldn't have been possible without the contributions of Diamond Ferri. The senior, who told coach Paul Pasqualoni he could play 125 snaps prior to the game, saw time at tailback, strong safety and punt returner.

Ferri stepped in to play tailback when Damien Rhodes injured his knee five minutes into the game. Syracuse was already missing starter Walter Reyes, who was suffering from a shoulder injury.

All Ferri did was rush for 141 yards and two touchdowns and return an interception 44 yards for a touchdown.

GAME BALL GOES TO: SS Diamond Ferri -- The senior turned in one the season's most impressive performances while playing three positions. He rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns, returned an interception 44 yards for a score and made six tackles in a 43-17 win over Boston College on Saturday.

KEEP AN EYE ON: QB Perry Patterson -- The sophomore completed 9 of 16 passes for 88 yards and rushed for a 5-yard touchdown in the victory over Boston College.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "If they want to leave the Big East, we'll send them out with a loss." -- Diamond Ferri, in the Boston Globe, on spoiling future ACC member Boston College's hopes for a BCS bid.

LOOKING GOOD: Apparently, Syracuse's ground game runs deeper than its tailback rotation. With starter Walter Reyes and reserve Damien Rhodes both injured, strong safety Diamond Ferri moved into the backfield and rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns.

STILL NEEDS SOME WORK: The Orange fumbled three times, but didn't lose one possession.

ROSTER REPORT: TB Walter Reyes (shoulder) missed Syracuse's final two games, but may be ready for a postseason appearance. TB Damien Rhodes (knee) left the Boston College game in the first quarter and didn't return.
