New Look New BIG EAST Coming In 2005-06

When the Syracuse men's basketball team opens BIG EAST play at St. John's January 5, the meeting will mark the beginning of the end for the 26-year-old conference.

Come 2005-2006, the league will add five new members: University of Cincinnati, DePaul University, University of Louisville, Marquette University and the University of South Florida.

The turmoil that followed the Atlantic Coast Conference's invitation to University of Miami, Virginia Tech University and Boston College, led to the demise of the old BIG EAST and ultimately the creation of a new-look conference.

Already one of the top men's basketball conferences in the nation, winning the past two national championships (University of Connecticut and Syracuse), the additions are likely to make the BIG EAST the premier basketball power from top to bottom.
