Syracuse will make bowl game

The Syracuse football team will play in either the Champs Sports Bowl on Dec. 21 in Orlando, Fla. or the Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 23, the school announced Friday.

The final decision will be made on Sunday after the final BCS rankings are announced. Should the Orange (6-5, 4-2 Big East) have a better BCS ranking than Pittsburgh, then Syracuse would head to a BCS game as the Big East representative. Syracuse won a share of the Big East title along with Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Boston College.

Should Syracuse decide to play in the Las Vegas Bowl, it would play Wyoming (6-5), which plays in the Mountain West Conference. The Orange has never played the Cowboys in football.

If Syracuse plays in the Champs Sports Bowl, it would play the ACC's Georgia Tech (6-5). The two teams have met once before in 2001, with the Yellow Jackets knocking off Syracuse, 13-7, at the Meadowlands in the 2001 Kickoff Classic.

Notes: This will be Syracuse's 21st bowl appearance and ninth under coach Paul Pasqualoni. ... Syracuse's all time bowl record is 12-8-1. ... The Orange has appeared in neither the Champs Sports Bowl nor the Las Vegas Bowl.
