Syracuse interested in NY Jets coach

Syracuse athletics director Daryl Gross is interested in the NFL's New York Jets defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson, according to an Associated Press report.

Gross has ties to the Jets. He was a former scout for the New York team, and has showed interest in Henderson according to the AP.

Before coaching with the Jets, Henderson was a Baltimore Ravens assistant from 1999-2003. He has also been on coaching staffs at Utah State, Idaho, California, Arizona State and Houston.

Gross, who fired Pasqualoni in December following Syracuse's 51-14 loss to Georgia Tech in the Champs Sports Bowl, said he would like to hire a coach with both professional and college experience.

Other candidates rumored for the job are Tim Lewis of the NFL's New York Giants as well as Oklahoma assistant Bo Pelini, Connecticut head coach Randy Edsall and Southern California's Norm Chow.

The news comes after Syracuse's Post-Standard reported that assistant coach George DeLeone had accepted a job at Ole Miss.
