We spoke with Warwick (N.Y.) head coach Greg Sirico who has confirmed that defensive back Derek Hrinya
has indeed committed to Syracuse
"Derek actually committed in early July, well actually it was June 28th to be exact," Sirico said.
We asked Sirico to break down Hrinya's strengths and weaknesses us.
"He has great hips, he comes out of his break well, he has a 35" vertical, and is just a tough and physical kid," Sirico said. "He's just scratching the surface of his athletic ability."
According to Sirico, Rutgers, Syracuse, Connecticut and Army were all showing interest is his star protégé, but after he got the offer from the Orange he accepted immediately.
As a junior, Hrinya carried 54 times for 428 yards and 6 touchdowns. He caught 2 passes for 47 yards and 2 touchdowns. On defense he tallied 23 tackles.
