Getting to know Matt Reid

Keeping with the surprise theme in 2005, the Syracuse Orange have added another commitment that caught most fans off-guard. Just because a recruit is not highly publicized doesn't mean he is not a solid prospect, sometimes recruits just happen to avoid the radar. Scout.com caught up with the newest Orange recruit today to find out a little more about him.

Upper Marlboro (Md.) Douglass cornerback Matt Reid (6-2, 170, 4.5) decided this week that it was time to make a decision. Reid had visited Syracuse for the spring game, and after a few camp trips elsewhere he felt he'd found a home.

"I loved the campus at Syracuse and I thought it would be a great fit for me," Reid said. "They had the best academics, if I don't make it to the league I know I'll get a good job with a degree from Syracuse."

Although Reid say's it did not play a factor in his decision, he admits it didn't hurt the Orange that they have sophomore Quinton Brown from Douglass on the roster.

When he was a senior I was a sophomore," Reid said. "He told me the coaches at Syracuse really liked me and that I could play early there."

As a junior Reid caught six passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns. On defense he registered 75 tackles, six interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Reid had two touchdown returns as well.

Reid held offers from Syracuse, Rutgers, Akron, and Kent State. He was receiving interest from Marshall, Georgia tech, Cincinnati, and Virginia. The standout corner participated in three camps this summer.

"I camped at Cincinnati, Maryland, and James Madison," Reid said. "I was going to go to Syracuse but they offered me before camp, so I didn't go."

During the spring, Reid is usually found competing for the Douglass track and field team in the hurdles, long jump, and high jump.

"I finished third in the state in the high jump at 6'-2" this year," Reid said.
