McKenzie decides to make it Orange

The consensus was that Syracuse may possibly add another verbal pledge today. The Orange would have to fend off the West Virginia Mountaineers, did they?

Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph's Prep offensive lineman Jim McKenzie (6-4, 295, 5.2) announced today prior to his team's practice that he has indeeed committed to Syracuse.

"I announced on the field at 4:30 today before practice," McKenzie said. "I went up there two weeks ago and sort of made a tentative commitment, but today I made it official. I called Coach cross, then spoke to Coach Robinson and Coach Wiley."

What was it about Syracuse that made them so appealing to McKenzie?

The Coaching staff and the Athletic Director were two big reasons. A staff with NFL experience and an AD from USC where they have outstanding tadition," McKenzie said. "I also liked the way the players always give back to the school like Donovan McNabb and Art Monk. That shows me that they have a lot of pride and respect for the program."

McKenzie, an All-Catholic selection had received offers from Syracuse, Rutgers, West Virginia, Colorado, Kentucky, Toledo, and New Mexico State.
