Syracuse head football coach Greg Robinson said Tuesday the season is still so young, that he's not really sure just where his team stands.

"I really felt like after the West Virginia game we didn't put our best foot forward, and I think in the Buffalo game obviously we were the better football team," Robinson said.

The first year coach said this upcoming week's game with Virginia will give him a better idea. The Cavaliers had a bye last week, and won their game against Western Michigan 31-19 in the home opener.

"This (game) is going to give us another opportunity to get a barometer, to get a feel for where we are because Virginia is strong in all areas."

Robinson said he thinks his quarterback Perry Patterson is ready to measure up to a level on that barometer he wasn't two weeks ago against West Virginia. Patterson threw for 85 yards in that game and two interceptions, one resulting in a touchdown.

"I think in West Virginia, early in the game we got out of sorts and it affected him some, but I do think he has ability to be a field general," Robinson said. "He's gonna be tested this week and I'd like to say he's developed to where he can take a tougher test."

The way Robinson's has helped not only to Patterson, but his entire team to develop is through a thorough review process.

"We critique the film and we're very critical, and when I say critical, we just critique a lot of areas and when you give them a lot of information back and (by doing that) you're giving them a chance to improve," Robinson said. "I can just tell by the grades that there is still a lot of room for improvement."

He said he can't promise victories, but he can promise one thing

"The opponents are different so I don't know the end result, but I've said it all along, we're going to be better this Saturday, than we were last Saturday."

Senior tackle Kurt Falke left last weeks game with Buffalo with a knee injury. Robinson said he was questionable earlier this week, but said Tuesday his status is doubtful.

"I don't want to say for sure (he's not playing)," Robinson said. "But he's sore. I would say he is definitely doubtful."
