Orange Land Ohio Safety

Syracuse had a number of prospects in for their annual spring game a few short weeks ago. One Ohio prospect received an offer and gave his verbal pledge all in the same day.

Ryan Gillum flew under the recruiting radar of everyone, except Syracuse. The Youngstown Liberty safety committed to Syracuse a few weeks ago at their spring game.

"I committed the Saturday before Easter, at the spring game," Gillum said. "I liked the coaches, the people, surrounding, coaches, and the academics. I felt at home there."

Syracuse was the lone offering school for the 5-foot-11, 205-pound safety, but he was receiving interest from Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio), Boston College, Purdue, and Illinois.

Gillum visted the Bearcats of Cincinnati, before committing to Greg Robinson and the Orange.

"I visited Cincinnati for a junior day," Gillum said. "I liked it there, but I felt I fit in better at Syracuse."

Gillum earned All-Conference and All-County honors as a junior. His primary recruiter at Syracuse is Steve Russ.
