Catalina Commits

Cody Catalina was the top target at quarterback for head coach Greg Robinson and the Syracuse, and the Pa. gunslinger has decided to pull the trigger and become the fifth member of the Orange's 2007 recruiting class.

Cody Catalina, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound quarterback from Greensburg Central Catholic in Greensburg, Pa., gave his verbal pledge to attend Syracuse earlier today.

"I committed this morning," Catalina said. "It feels real good. Syracuse was always up front with me, and one of the things that helped was the fact that they always made me feel like I was their number one target. They told me that they were going to let me know about an offer on May 1st, and the called me on May 1st to let me know that they were offering."

Catalina also got along great with his recruiting contact.

"Coach Spencer and I have a great relationship," Catalina explained. He recruits my area of Pa. He is texting me all the time. He is more like a friend than a coach and that was something that I was looking for in a coach."

Catalina also feels like he will fit right in at Syracuse on a number of levels.

"I feel that the offense fits me perfectly at Syracuse," Catalina began. "I would also have to say that the coaching staff really made me feel comfortable. They are an up and coming program that has really only had a year or two to work with their system.

"I had a chance to visit the campus in April, and I plan to go back in July for a seven on seven. I did not get to take in a lot of the campus, but the dome and the weight room really stood out. Everything at Syracuse seems to be on the rise."

As a junior, Catalina completed nearly 50 percent of his passes for 1,354 yards and 14 touchdowns.
