Syracuse Rates High with Four-Star DE

Derrick Morgan (6-4, 260, 4.9) from Coatesville Area (Penn.) is ranked by as the 17th best defensive end in the country. This Four-Star defensive end compiled 10 sacks as a junior and benches 315 pounds.

"I'm a good pass rusher and have great quickness off the ball," Morgan said. "I can read the line well and have great reactions. I'm never satisfied with myself and I want to get more aggressive. My goal is to have at least 13 sacks this season. Also, I need to get a little stronger."

Morgan has over 20 scholarship offers, but denies a leader. "I'll look at the academics and I want to go to a school with a good communications program," Morgan said. "I want an opportunity to play early and need to take my visits to make sure that I get along with everyone."

He's already gone to the North Carolina State camp and will be attending the Boston College camp on July 8. "The North Carolina State camp was nice. I like how the program is run and feel like I could play early there. They use the defensive ends well and the coaches are really nice. My defensive back coach, Larry Austin, played there and he really liked it."

Morgan favors Syracuse, Penn State, Pittsburgh, North Carolina State, Boston College and Ohio State. All of his favorites have offered. He also has offers from Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Iowa, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Connecticut, Temple, Vanderbilt and Cincinnati.

"Syracuse has a great environment and I like their communications program."

The first school to offer him was Penn State. "They have the best tradition," Morgan said about the Nittany Lions. "I love their facilities too. They are top of the line and I like the indoor practice field. They seem to be the most interested right now and send me the most mail. Also, they are only about three hours away, but that's not a factor."

Growing up, Morgan says he always like Ohio State. "They always won and I just loved watching them play."

He reports a 3.8 GPA and a 1480 on his SAT.
