Ohio linebacker interested in Cuse

Youngstown Cardinal Mooney (Oh.) linebacker/defensive end Taylor Hill has been receiving an increasing amount of recruiting interest since his team capped its 14-0, state championship season. Last week, he got an offer from national power Oklahoma. Is Syracuse next?

"I think Syracuse is about to offer me," said Hill, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound junior who recorded 98 tackles and 12 sacks last season. "I've been talking to coach [Russ] a lot … He told me he was sending out some paperwork, and to expect good news."

A Hill commitment would be great news for the Cuse, which could use an impact outside linebacker – the position at which most schools see him. He runs a 4.5-second 40-yard dash, has a nose for the ball and is in solid shape academically.

Coincidentally, SU has also offered his teammates Brandon Beachum and Michael Zordich, two more standout linebackers. Oklahoma, meantime, has offered all three players in addition to yet another teammate, Dan McCarthy. We're talking about one talent-laden high school team here, obviously.

The group has spoken about playing together in college.

"We'd like to play together in college, but it's not a big concern, really," said Hill, who also holds offers from Indiana and Akron, in addition to interest from a long list of schools.

As far as location, he said, "I'd like to stay close, but I'm open to anything and keeping my options open."

Hill, who has visited Michigan and Ohio State, said he is very interested in Syracuse and believes he could get onto the field right away there. The staff is pressing him to visit for spring ball, which he said he'll most likely do. If Ohio State enters the picture, the Buckeyes will be hard to beat for Hill, but otherwise, SU appears to be in as good a shape as anyone at this early juncture.
