Fairchild Talks Syracuse
"I really don't have any [timetable] for that. I just want to make sure I've gotten to see everywhere and explore all of my options," Fairchild told Syracusefan.com. "I want to visit all the places I can and make sure it's a good fit."
As of right now, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound speedster has two other offers – from Ball State and Duke – while Louisville, Cincinnati, Maryland, Boston College and Colorado have shown varying levels of interest.
Fairchild, a former quarterback who moved to wideout after suffering a shoulder injury, offers pure speed. He's run a 4.36-second 40-yard dash. Last year he piled 700-plus yards and six touchdowns receiving, 300 yards and four touchdowns on the ground and two punt returns for scores. Most schools see him as a slot receiver and kick/punt returner. He also has a 3.7 GPA.
"I definitely want to find a good academic school," because you can't play football forever," he said. "I [also] wouldn't want to go somewhere super far away, but it's most where I'll fit.
"I'd like to go somewhere that passes the ball, obviously," he added.
Fairchild has been in contact with SU assistant Steve Russ quite regularly and plans to visits campus sometime this spring or summer. He likes the fact that SU's staff liked his film enough to offer immediately.
They saw my film and all of the coaches sat down and watched it, and thought I had really good speed and that I could do stuff with the ball after I get it," he said.
He's also excited about the possibility of getting early playing time.
"I wouldn't mind red-shirting my first year, that's not a big deal for me. But I don't want to go some place where I sit three years and play one. I definitely want to play," he said.
Syracusefan.com will keep you posted on Fairchild's recruitment.
